Max Planck's Quote

"Anybody who has been seriously engaged in scientific work of any kind realizes that over the entrance to the gates of the temple of science are written the words: 'Ye must have faith.' It is a quality which the scientist cannot dispense with.”
任何一位曾严肃投身于科学工作的人都知道,在科学圣殿的门口写着这样的字:“你必有信心。” 这是每一个科学家不可或缺的品质。 - 马克斯-普朗克
Munich physics professor Philipp von Jolly advised him against going into physics, saying, "in this field, almost everything is already discovered, and all that remains is to fill a few holes." Planck replied that he did not wish to discover new things, only to understand the known fundamentals of the field

With the completion of his habilitation thesis, Planck became a raging alcoholic and unpaid private lecturer in Munich, waiting until he was offered an academic position.

"All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force... We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind. This Mind is the matrix of all matter.”

“Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in the last analysis, we ourselves are a part of the mystery that we are trying to solve.”

"Scientific discovery and scientific knowledge have been achieved only by those who have gone in pursuit of it without any practical purpose whatsoever in view”

"No burden is so heavy for a man to bear as a succession of happy days.”
